Ship owners: Foreign policy is not our task

It cannot be the duty of shipping companies to decide which to countries they may or may not freight weapons, believes The Danish Shipowners' Association and J. Poulsen Shipping which sail weapons and ammunition to various countries.

It is up to Danish politicians to choose to which countries shipping companies may or may not freight weapons and ammunition, believes The Danish Shipowners’ Association as well as the Danish shipping company, J. Poulsen Shipping.

“We cannot be the ones to pick and choose. The international community lays down the rules on which countries we may or may not freight to. We cannot be in a situation where we are forced to make a list of priorities in either direction. If that was the case, we might just as well close up shop tomorrow. That is not the way the world works,” says Finn J. Poulsen, CEO of J. Poulsen Shipping, to ShippingWatch.
