Nick Clegg has warned Britain’s banks that the government would not stand on the sidelines if they paid out lavish bonuses and failed to boost lending, increasing pressure on David Cameron to toughen his stance on the City.
The deputy prime minister has watched in dismay as attempts by the banks to co- ordinate their action on cutting bonuses and increasing lending have faltered in recent days.
